Exchange: Allseating’s prototype preview during NeoCon marks an innovative entrance into the open-plan collaborative market

Today’s workplaces are designed to encourage movement throughout the day, providing spaces and seating that support a variety of desired mindsets. They must take into account both extraverts and introverts, the expanded role of outside consultants, and the complete dissolution of the cubicle farm. This June, during NeoCon 2016, Allseating takes its place in this emerging market in a way that only an independent, nimble manufacturer can—offering an affordable, highly customizable solution.

“Easy collaboration is key to business success and we, as a seating manufacturer, are called upon to offer a range of ways to gather, with choice levels of privacy,” says Chris Binnendyk. “Our Exchange soft seating system is designed to do that, and with the highest level of versatility.”

Developed by Allseating CEO, Gary Neil, in collaboration with Canadian designer Nick Gillissie, who has created complex systems furniture for major manufacturers, Exchange accommodates easy sourcing of furniture across an organization’s entire floorplan. In addition to using standard architectural measurements, the system is one of the only of its kind that will include pieces expressing all the functions common to open workplaces: benches; open-plan collaborative; private open-plan enclosures; and banquettes. In this way, Allseating delivers to interior designers the ability to create visual continuity from reception, to the cafeteria, and throughout working areas.

Built from two-foot by two-foot square building blocks, Exchange’s reinforced moulded-plastic core (think of pop crates held together by steel rods) is the brainchild of Allseating founder and CEO Gary Neil and results in pieces that are significantly lighter, easily shipped, and which can be produced from recyclable materials.

A true marriage of a residential look with workplace functionality, Exchange can host a casual conversation or a plugged-in task team—configurations can be outfitted with retractable tablets and power systems. Options also include tufted or non-tufted cushioning as well as variations of arm heights and widths. Tables will be available initially with round or rectangular tops. And privacy screens that attach to the back of benches can be selected at different heights.

Those who come to view the prototype of this soft seating system at Allseating’s showroom in June will see how it brings people together for every need and niche—ultimately fulfilling the manufacturer’s campaign promise: the sum is greater because of its parts.
